Monitoring

How Do I Watch a Test Live?

Learn how live monitoring works in ExamLive. Watch current questions, answers, time left, and violations during a session in progress.

What live monitoring is

Live monitoring streams an in-progress session to you as it happens. It's read-only: you observe, the automatic rules enforce, but there's no way to message or terminate anyone from here.

Opening a live session

From your test's Submissions list, use the three-dot menu of someone whose status shows as still taking the test and choose Monitor (or View Session). The monitoring page opens for that person.

What you see

  • A browser mockup mirroring the question they're on right now, including the option they've selected, updating as they work.
  • Progress: how far through the questions they are.
  • Time left on their countdown.
  • Violations: their running count against the test's limit.
  • Activity history: a timestamped feed of events such as Tab switched, Left window, Exited fullscreen, and Copied content.

Everything arrives over a realtime connection; no refreshing needed.

When the session ends

Once they submit, the mockup blurs and the view becomes a record of what happened rather than a live feed. Grading continues from Submissions.

When to watch

Useful for high-stakes or tightly proctored tests where seeing behavior in the moment matters. For casual quizzes, the recorded activity log on each submission is usually enough.
