How Do I Upload Files to the AI Chat?

Where to find it

Open the AI assistant from the sparkles icon in the top-right header, or press Ctrl+. (⌘+. on Mac). Attachments work from any page the assistant is available on, so you can use them while building questions, reviewing submissions, or planning a test.

Attaching a file

Use the file button under the prompt to browse for a file, or drag and drop it straight onto the chat box (the input highlights as you drag). Your file shows up in the message with an [Attachment: filename] label, so you can always see exactly what the assistant is being asked to read.

Files must be 4 MB or smaller; anything else is rejected with a clear message before it's sent.

How the assistant uses it

The assistant reads the text in your file and treats it as part of your request. Ask for questions from the material, a summary, or key points:

"Generate five multiple choice questions from the attached chapter."

You attach one file per message, and the rest of your prompt works exactly as usual. Attaching a file counts toward the request's AI credit cost like any other message. See AI Credits.

Files aren't stored

The file itself is never stored by ExamLive; only the text the assistant reads is included in that one request. Because nothing is saved, regenerating a message drops its attachment. The assistant confirms first: attached files aren't stored, and the regenerated answer won't be able to read the file again. Cancel to keep the file, or pick Remove & regenerate to continue without it.
