The instant part

When a test is submitted, every multiple choice, multiple select, and true/false answer is compared against its answer key and scored on the spot, with skipped questions recorded as zero. Multiple Select questions earn partial credit and carry a small penalty for wrong selections. See How Multiple Select is graded. Totals appear immediately, no action needed from you.

The human part

Short answers never get machine-scored. Submitted short answers are flagged Needs Review and wait in the Submissions list until you open them and award points yourself.

Why it's built this way

Objective scoring is deterministic and safe to automate completely. Written responses usually deserve judgment: partial credit, alternative phrasings, and context that only you can weigh.

Your workflow

1. Finish a test session; objective points land instantly.
2. Open submissions marked Needs Review.
3. Score each short answer yourself, add per-question feedback if you like. Leave it blank to show the question's default explanation instead, when one was set.
4. Publish results when ready via Publish Results, or ask the AI assistant to do it for you (Publish Results with AI).
