title: "How Do I Publish and Share a Test?"

## Publishing

A test starts as a draft and must be published before anyone can take it.

1. Open your test and click **Publish** in the header.
2. A summary appears covering basic info, schedule, experience settings, security, sharing, and the question count.
3. If groups are assigned, check **Notify** to send those members a notification about the test.
4. Confirm to go live.

If something required is missing, you're taken straight to the tab that needs fixing. A test whose availability window already ended can't be published until you update its schedule.

## After publishing

The configuration locks: schedule, duration, experience, security, questions, and sharing can't change while the test is live, and the editor shows a read-only notice.

To make changes, click **Unpublish** in the header. The test returns to draft and becomes editable again; no one can start it while it's unpublished.

## Choosing who can take it

In the **Share** tab, pick a sharing mode:

- **Public**: anyone with the link, or anyone in your organization, can take it.
- **Private**: only members of the groups you select. Choose groups from the searchable list, or create one on the spot with **New Group**.

See [Create Groups](/guides/create-groups) to set groups up ahead of time.

## Ways to share

From the Share tab:

- Copy the participant link with the copy button, or use the share button to hand it to another app directly.
- Download a QR code as a PNG image for printouts and projector slides.

The same link is also available from your tests list through the three-dot menu under **Copy link**.

There are no separate access codes: having the link and being signed in is what grants entry, and Private tests additionally verify group membership.

## What happens next

People who receive the link sign in, pass the pre-flight checks, and begin. Walkthrough in [Join a Test](/guides/join-test).
