## Why use groups?

Groups let you limit who takes a test. Instead of sharing a link anyone can use, you assign a test to specific groups, and only their members can access it. For example:

- "Period 3" gets a different test than "Period 5"
- "Sales Team" takes a compliance test that "Engineering" doesn't

## Creating a group

1. Open **Groups** from the sidebar.
2. Click **New Group**.
3. Give it a name (for example, "Grade 10 - Biology").
4. Use the member picker below the name field to add people. It searches your organization as you type, so you can add members without scrolling.
5. Optionally check **Notify** to let everyone you added know they joined the group, delivered in-app, by email, and as a push notification.
6. Click **Create Group**.

You can also create a group on the fly while [assigning a test to a group](#assigning-a-test-to-a-group).

## Editing a group

Open the three-dot menu and choose **Edit Group**. Rename it, add or remove members, then click **Save Changes**.

## Deleting a group

Open the three-dot menu on a group and choose **Delete Group**, or select several rows and delete them in one go. Deleting only removes the group itself. Members stay in your organization; they just leave that group.

## Assigning a test to a group

In a test's settings, find the **Sharing Mode** option:

- **Public**: anyone with the link can take it.
- **Private**: only members of the groups you select can take it. You must pick at least one group.

From the **Tests** page you can also open a test's three-dot menu and choose **Assign to Group** to change this later. See [Publish & Share a Test](/guides/publish-share-test) for how participants get access.

## What if I don't use groups?

They're optional. Keep every test public and share links directly, and you never need to create a group.
